No. The clinical session with the teaching associates is an optional extra. It is not mandatory however it is highly recommended as it provides learners with the opportunity to undertake a speculum examination on a person (teaching associate) in a supported environment before they commence their clinical attachment.

I’m a doctor looking to upskill in this area. Can I attend this session?

I’m an experienced midwife or sexual health nurse with speculum experience. Do I need to attend this session?  No. If you have prior experience in using a speculum and feel confident with your technique, there is no additional benefit in attending this session. However, if you are new to cervical screening, the Cervical Screening for Healthcare Professionals or Cervical Screening for Healthcare Professionals – Distance Education course will provide with the essential education and skills you require to become a non-medical cervical screening provider (NMCSP).

What is the role of a Clinical Teaching Associate in the course? A clinical Teaching Associate is a woman who has trained with a university to provide feedback and guidance during speculum examination from the perspective of a patient. This enables participants to hone their pelvic examination skills in a safe, supportive and client-centred way.

Will I be able to perform my first cervical screen (towards my minimum 7) at the session? No. The Clinical Teaching Associate session is designed to enable you to perform a speculum examination in a clinically realistic setting with support and guidance from True nurse educators.

Can I get an invoice sent to me so my workplace can pay for the course? Yes, as part of the online registration you can select your workplace/organisation as the “Bill To” contact and you can select either Credit Card or Invoice for payment. Please be aware that payment secures a position in the course. Failure to provide payment within 7 days from registration will result in your registration being cancelled.

Where is the clinical session held? The clinical training session is run directly after the Cervical Screening Workshop is held at our Brisbane premises in the clinic at 230 Lutwyche Road, Windsor, Queensland 4030.

I am doing the distance education course- can I come to the teaching associate session? If you have completed the Cervical Screening course for Health Professionals via distance education and would like to attend this session, please get in touch with the CEU team
