Multicultural education for health professionals

This resource has been developed by True Relationships and Reproductive Health in conjunction with the Culturally Responsive Health Advisory Group and community consultation.

This course gives an introduction to Female Genital Mutilation/ Cutting/ Circumcision (FGM/C) in Australia, to build capacity for health and professionals to respond to women who have experienced FGM/C in their practice. Interpreters, community workers and educators may also find this module helpful. This course has been developed with the Culturally Responsive Health Advisory Group and community representatives to address cultural awareness and is not a clinical guideline.

This course is developed to provide information on what health professionals need to know about FGM/C care and the cultural considerations during clinical consultations. Participants will engage with updated information on current international and state FGM/C guidelines, diagnostic aides and resource materials for clients affected by FGM/C. Primarily for General Practitioners, this course is also helpful for midwives, nurses and other health professionals working in clinical and health education settings
